Speed Runners is exactly what the title says. One thing I can say is that it is
impossible to describe with words how fast paced this game is for players. While
at PAX I had set up a time with tiny Build Games to take a look at the game and
when I got to the booth there were no words exchanged I was handed a controller.
The developer knew that he could go through the entire overview of the game, but
that would not do it justice. Speed Runners is more of an experience and not
just a game. Once I started to play it was an absolute rush. At first I was not
sure what to do, but after dying a few times I soon caught on to the game. But
the third try I actually made it about a third of the way through the map. But
in the end was still very badly beaten by other players. Even though I lost I
can absolutely say without any pause that you have to try this game. If you are
a speed junkie then this game is for you.
The video below will give you a better idea of the gameplay:
Speed Runners is a multiplayer foot-racing platformer available for up to four
players. The goal is to race to the end of the screen. That may sound simple,
but trust me it is not. The weapon style is similar to Mario Kart, but it also
reminds me of Death Race. The players must be the first to get the weapons in
order to use them. While playing at PAX one player got a weapon first and I was
able to get ahead of him. But the next thing I knew a grappling hook grabbed my
character and flung me behind them. That was not expected. Character movements
include wall jumping, spider-man like grappling swings, sprinting, and sliding.
There are multiple maps available for players, but with each map there are
several options that the player can take. Players must be fast thinking and try
to figure out which way is the best way.
Players can experience Speed Runners on both PC and Mac. The official website is
