When you want to play roulette, one of the things you need to decide on is
how much you are going to wager and what you are going to wager on. Essentially,
there are two types of bets in roulette ? inside bets and outside bets.
Inside bets are those wagers on specific numbers or combinations of numbers and
are made in the number area on the roulette table. Some examples of inside bets
include straight up bets where the player wagers on a specific number coming up;
a split bet, which is placed on the line between two numbers and if one of them
comes up, the wager wins; a street bet which is similar to a split but allows
wagering on three numbers; a corner bet which refers to four adjoining numbers
and a five number bet where you wager on a specific combination of numbers.
Outside bets are those which are located on the outside area of the numbers.
Examples of outside bets include Red or Black, where you guess if the winning
number will land on a red or black slot on the wheel. This bet pays 1 to 1 (even
money). Another example of an outside bet is odd or even, where you wager that
the ball will fall on an odd or an even number; a Low or High where the winning
number will be in a specific range of numbers (1-18 or 19 -36); Column bets
which pay out 2 to 1 and, finally, Dozens Bets, which also pay out 2 to 1.
As you can see, there are many different wagers in roulette, and you should
familiarize yourself with them before starting to play the game for real money
so that you recognize the best odds available to you.
