| johnmatthais | Posted: 3/31/2011 4:47:41 AM Linkrealms is a niche game in the spirit of Ultima. Currently, it's in a limited form of open beta with content flowing steadily. The community is small, but dedicated, with just over 2500 ever having been allowed into Linkrealms (by limited form of open beta, I mean weekly allotted amount of keys up for grabs...before that happened, only about 1000 people had ever entered the game). Linkrealms draws a lot of inspiration from Ultima Online, in its combat and progression, but it's not to be confused with Ultima 2.0: Linkrealms is its own entity with its own goals, striving to appeal to all sorts of players while housing dozens of features and play options. One of the most unique features about the game, and one that the community uses to its fullest extent is the player housing Linkrealms offers. It's not JUST housing. It's anything you want it to be. My own plot is a 3 story mansion complete with a bar, a forge, and a bedroom. Dungeons in Linkrealms are intense and demand that players go into a dungeon ready for what lay in waiting to complete. From gryphons to golems to imps to trolls to minotaurs to harpies to Darklings (more goat-like satyrs) to Gnomes to crickets to even anteaters, the game has dozens of creative mobs and one of the dungeons will probably make you laugh hysterically while the enemies are pounding on you and your team. The weapons, while not in the thousands of options everyone would love to hear, are creative and the "epic" weapons truly are truly awesome. There's a crossbow called "The Inferno of Phoenix" that shoots flaming arrows. The crossbow looks like it's part flamethrower. There's a hammer that has a head shaped like the moon. There's a sword made out of a pelvis. There's an axe that spawns frost demons. There's a sword that brings up a whirlwind of power. And the list goes on. However, nothing about Linkrealms is better than its community. The community is what's kept me with Linkrealms as long as I have. Between the helpful players and the developers that actually play their own game and communicate with the players fully, the game shows incredible promise. Whether you're a fierce warrior, an architect, or even that guy who makes the leather armor everyone else goes to fight in, Linkrealms can appeal to you. Just give it a shot, and don't be afraid to ask for help getting started. - Johnon, the green dog. :P |
